Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is excited to launch its new podcast, Purpose & Protection, a monthly series that explores the stories, values and evolving role of Canada’s only not-for-profit security provider.
The podcast debuts during a landmark year for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025. Originally founded after World War I to provide meaningful employment for returning veterans, the organization has grown to serve communities across every province in Canada. Today, Commissionaires are trusted professionals for the modern security landscape.
Hosted by Barry Pitcher, CEO of CNS, Purpose & Protection offers a behind-the-scenes look at the people and principles that make the organization unique. “The podcast will be a medium of shared experience,” says Pitcher. “We’ll bring forward stories that highlight the lived experiences of our commissionaires and guests, especially veterans, whose perspectives are unlike any other.”
CNS plays a vital role in safeguarding key infrastructure across the province, including government facilities, tolls, airports, seaports and so much more. Through Purpose & Protection, listeners will gain insight into the organization’s mission to keep Nova Scotia’s gateways safe and secure, while providing meaningful employment opportunities for veterans, their families and other citizens wishing to contribute to the well-being of community and country.
The debut episode will be released on Wednesday, September 17 and features The Honourable Peter MacKay discussing veteran support and the importance of service. Additional future guests include Brigadier-General Mark Parsons, Commander of the 5th Canadian Division, Honourary Captain(N), Elder Debbie Eisen, and other distinguished voices from the military, public service, and more.
