The Commandos are taking their skills out East to play against the Halifax Navy in their next chapter of Commando Challenges!
DEFSEC will be held in Nova Scotia, Halifax on Wednesday, September 7th and Thursday, September 8th.

On May 26, 2016, the Ottawa-based media will take on the Canadian military General Officers and Flag Officers (GOFOs) in the fifth instalment of what has become a fierce on-ice competition in the name of charity.
This winter rematch follows four previous games, three of which left the Esprit de Corps Commandos victorious, and in the last game, former Chief of Defence Staff, Tom Lawson joined the Esprit de Corps team to face-off against General Jonathan Vance and his GOFO squad.
But the real winner of this series of fundraising games has been the Military Family Resource Centre for the National Capital Region, which provides a myriad of unique services for the 11,000 military members, 8,000 spouses, and 9,000 children living in the Ottawa area.
In total, proceeds from these hockey games have raised almost $20,000 for the local organization.
Tickets are just $10 with all proceeds going to fundraising efforts.
Surprise celebrity guests will be present, and there will be raffles for incredible prizes from our sponsors.

The NATO Council of Canada is holding a day of panel discussions exploring the complexities of the Ukrainian conflict. The topics will include a view from Ukraine's neighbours, and security concerns. The event features a range of speakers, including Senator Raynell Andreychuk, Gita Kalmet, the Ambassador of Estonia, and Polish Ambassador Marcin Bosacki.
The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Cadieux Auditorium of the Pearson Building, at 125 Sussex Drive.

Former Canadian diplomat Robert Fowler, who is well-known for having been abducted and held for 130 days by al-Qaeda in Niger, but is perhaps most importantly one a leading expert on defence and Canadian foreign policy, is holding two public talks in early November.
The topic is: "What is courage in battle and how has it been rewarded?" Based on his recent book exploring the topic, Mr. Fowler will discuss Canadian courage and sacrifice in wars ranging from the South African War to the mission in Afghanistan.
The hour-long presentation will be held at two Ottawa Public Library locations next week: the Centrepointe Branch on Wednesday, November 5, and the Orleans Branch on Thursday, November 6.

Robert R. Fowler is a Senior Fellow at the University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the author of A Season in Hell: My 130 Days in the Sahara with Al Qaeda. He has served as a foreign-policy adviser to three Canadian prime ministers, as personal representative to Africa for three others, and as deputy minister of national defence, and was Canada’s longest-serving ambassador to the United Nations.
Female aviation legend Amelia Earhart
This new musical act, premiering at the Canadian War Museum, brings to life the relatively untold story of the courageous female pilots who broke gender barriers and took to the skies at a time when flying was not only dangerous, but considered a men's-only sphere.
The play is written and directed by Canadian playwright Clint Ward and tells the stories of aviation heroes such as Jacqueline Cochran, Beryl Markham, Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart.
Speaking about the play, Ward said, “Spitfire Dance was written to honour the remarkable achievements of female aviation pioneers in general aviation and wartime settings, such as their crucial contribution to the Air Transport Auxiliary during the Second World War."
He added: “This is a play about remembrance that aims to inspire young Canadian females regarding aviation as a career choice and provides everyone with a trip back in time that is especially fitting this year, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Great War and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy.”
The musical is being put on by Spitfire productions, and will be performed in the Canadian War Museum’s Barney Danson Theatre. There will be seven showings from October 23-26, 2014.

After the showings at the War Museum, the play will to travel to Hudson Quebec's Village Theatre where the eight showings from November 5-9 are almost sold out.

Esprit de Corps is a proud media sponsor of the 2014 Canada Army Run, which has just recently sold out with 25,000 participants ready to bear their bibs and give their all in the 5K or half marathon.
The race weekend kicks off on Sept. 19 in beautiful downtown Ottawa with race kit pick-up, a sports expo, and an impressive display of military equipment laid out at Ottawa City Hall. Saturday will get participants pumped up for race day with a friendship race and a carbohydrate-packed mess style pasta dinner, prepared by military cooks.
Sunday Sept. 21 is the big day, where runners will pass by historic parts of Canada's capital such as Parliament Hill, and travel along the famous Rideau Canal, which should be framed by the brilliant colours of the changing autumn leaves.
The Army Run supports two fantastic Canadian military charities — Soldier On and the Military Families Fund, and Esprit de Corps is very excited to take part.

A rematch for the ages! This fundraising hockey game will once again pit the Esprit de Corps' Commandos (captained by Scott Taylor) against the General Officers and Flag Officer (GOFOs, captained by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Tom Lawson).
Proceeds from the game will be donated to the Military Family Resource Centre and this year's Army Run charities: Soldier On & the Military Families Fund.
Despite Gen. Lawson's vow that the GOFOs will come out as the top team this time (the Commandos took the last match 5:1) the real goal of the game is to raise a charitable donation in excess of $20,000 from ticket sales and corporate sponsorship.
Tickets for the game are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The game will run from 14:00-16:00 with a VIP reception to follow and will take place at the University of Ottawa arena (801 King Edward Ave), rink 1.
Come out and watch the media vs. the military brass go head-to-head, while supporting Canadian troops, veterans, and their families!

The BYOB concept is very simple. As soon as participants pick up their race kits for Canada Army Run they are given their official run bib. All runners need to do is show participating BYOB businesses their bib to qualify for special discounts and bonuses. The discounts are valid during the entire Run Weekend.
